You can restrict access to certain activities to ensure that learners follow a specific path in your course. For example, you can require that learners complete the lessons before they are able to proceed to a quiz or survey.
Step-by-step Guide
To restrict access to an activity:
-
Go to the settings page for the activity in question
-
Near the bottom, expand the "Restrict access" section
-
Click on the "Add restriction" button
-
Select the “Activity completion” restriction
-
There are other types of activities available, but the “Activity completion” restriction is the one that allows you to enforce an order in your course.
-
-
From the “Choose…” dropdown menu, select the activity in question
-
If your activities are already in order in your course, you can simply select “Previous activity with completion”, but you can also select a specific activity if you prefer.
-
The default selections for the remaining fields in the restrictions are usually the desired settings, so there should be no need to modify them.
-
The “For ______ weeks” option lets you set a delay between the completion of a prerequisite activity and when the next activity becomes available. This is helpful if, for example, you want someone to complete a survey weeks or even months after finishing the rest of the course. For instance, if you want a user to complete the survey 8 weeks after finishing a quiz, you can select “For 8 weeks” and check the “Unlock notification” checkbox. After 8 weeks, the user will receive an email prompting them to complete the survey.

When you are done, click on the Save button at the bottom of the page to save your restrictions.
