Can You Explain the Status "Activity Skipped"

Question

We’re noticing in the Completion status report that some users have an “Activity skipped” symbol for certain activities. Can you explain how that’s possible?

Answer

At a high level, if someone has completed a course (e.g. they have a valid learning record / green checkmark for the overall course) but haven’t completed specific activities, the Completion Status report will show an “Activity skipped“ icon for any activity that was incomplete.

There are different scenarios where a user could have an “Activity skipped” symbol for one or more activities.

  • In the “Course completion” page for the course in question, if under “Condition: Activity completion”, the “Condition requires” is set to “ANY selected activities to be completed”, it means the user must only complete one (1) of the mandatory activities to complete the course. If that were the case, only the activity that they completed would be marked as completed and the rest would be marked as skipped.

  • If the user was granted an equivalency, it means they did not complete the activities online (in the learning environment) and the activities would therefore be marked as skipped.

  • If an activity was added (or marked as mandatory) after the user received a learning record, the new activity would be marked as skipped.

These scenarios can lead to a completion status for the course overall even if all quiz activities are not completed.
