Changing a User's Authentication Method

The Active Directory integration feature is disabled by default and needs to be enabled and configured by Dual Code. For more information, please contact us.

From time to time, you may want to change a user's authentication method. For example, a volunteer or student might have their username and password managed by the learning environment, but if you hire them full time, you may require them to authenticate using your organization's Windows / Active Directory credentials.

To change a user's authentication method:

  • Go to Site Administration > Users > Accounts > Browse list of users
  • Use the search filter to find the user in question
  • Click the cogwheel in the "Edit" column next to the user whose password you want to reset
  • Change the value of the "Choose an authentication method" field. Generally speaking, the value for users whose credentials are managed by the learning environment is "Manual accounts" and the value for users managed by Active Directory is "Active Directory" or "LDAP Server".
  • Click on the "Update profile" button at the bottom of the page

The change takes effect immediately. Please note that in order for authentication to work, the user's username in the learning environment must match his/her account name in Active Directory.

To make this change for multiple users at the same time, see "Uploading Users".
