What is Moodle

Moodle® is an open-source software learning management system distributed under the GNU General Public License. Developed on pedagogical principles, Moodle is used for online and blended learning, primarily in schools, colleges and universities.

With customizable management features, it is used to create private websites with online courses for educators and trainers to achieve learning goals. Moodle, which is an acronym for modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment, allows for extending and tailoring learning environments using community sourced plugins.

Powering more than 150,000 learning environments globally, Moodle is trusted by institutions and organisations large and small, including the London School of Economics, State University of New York, and the Open University. Moodle’s worldwide numbers of more than 200 million users makes it the world’s most widely used learning platform.
