Frequently Asked Questions about OCI
The short answer is anyone. Anyone can sign up for a free personal account on My Dual Code™ (https://my.dualcode.com ) and enrol in courses listed in OCI. If an organization already has a learning environment powered by Dual Code, their staff can search for OCI courses from within their workplace learning environment and enrol in them. There are over 1,000 healthcare workplaces in Canada alone with a learning environment powered by Dual Code. Together, they represent over 1 million healthcare workers.
Yes. Many organizations offer their courses for free in OCI. Listing your courses in OCI is an excellent way to increase adoption and enrolment in your courses. There are over 1 million healthcare workers registered in OCI and enrolling in courses on a regular basis.
Yes. You can set a fee on your courses. Users will have to pay this fee in order to enrol in your courses. Payment methods include credit card, cheque and EFT (electronic funds transfer) depending on your volume and agreement with Dual Code.
Organizations using HCE Standard can develop a custom form and require users to fill out that form before accessing their courses. This form allows you to collect demographics on your users.
Please be aware that requiring users to complete a form before accessing courses can be a hindrance. The more personal information you request, the higher the likelihood that users will abandon the self-registration process.
No. OCI is secure and your courses remain your intellectual property. When users self-register on your site via OCI and enrol in your courses, they are creating an account on your learning environment. There is no way for an individual to download your course and install it in their learning environment. They can only view courses that you’ve already decided to make available to the general public.
No. In fact, if you’re currently on HCE Standard or HCE Enterprise, OCI saves you money.
The fees for Dual Code’s HCE Standard and HCE Enterprise services are based on the number of users. OCI users do not consume your licenses. So if users enrol in your courses via OCI, you don’t need to buy additional licenses.
As a concrete example, let’s say you offer a course that a hospital wants to offer to the majority of their staff. If were you create accounts for the hospital’s staff directly in your HCE learning environment, you would have to pay for these licenses. But if the learner’s were to enrol in your course via their employer’s learning environment powered by Dual Code, you wouldn’t have to pay for any user licenses for these users. This could save you thousand of dollars annually.
Very easy. With HCE Express, you can have your first course published in the OCI marketplace in a matter of hours. Afterwards, publishing additional courses is a matter of minutes. Note that this does not include the time to design and develop your SCORM packages or other multi-media courses.
Very easy.
OCI is similar to any other search engine (e.g. Google, Bing). It scans the Dual Code network for courses already available to the general public, and lists them. There is nothing for you to do. If you later on decide to delete, hide or restrict your course, the OCI directory will unlist it automatically.
Dual Code provides technical support to OCI learners, which means you don’t have to. If you sell your courses using HCE Express, Dual Code handles all of the transactions. This includes payment (by credit card, cheque or EFT), refunds and cancellations. At the end of each month, you will receive a Statement of Remittance and your proceeds will be deposited in your bank account.
OCI functions similarly to other search engines like Google or Bing. It scans the Dual Code network for courses that are publicly available and lists them accordingly.
OCI also verifies certain aspects of your course and uses an algorithm to determine eligibility before including them in the OCI marketplace. If one of your courses does not appear in the OCI marketplace and you would like it to be listed, please contact our Help Desk.
OCI only lists courses that are already available to the general public. If you do not want your course listed, you can simply hide it, disable self-enrolment or restrict the course.
