Restricting the Length of Time a Learner has Access to a Course

When users self-enrol in a course, by default, they have unlimited access to that course. In other words, the system will not automatically unenroll them. That being said, you can control the length of time a user has access to a course via the "Enrollment Duration" setting in an enrollment method.

Step-by-step Guide

To set the enrollment duration method:

  1. Go to the course in question
  2. Go to Course Administration > Users > Enrollment Methods
  3. Click on the edit icon next to the enrollment method in question
  4. Enable and set a value for the the "Enrolment duration" field
    1. You may also want to set the "Notify before enrolment expires" and "Notification threshold" fields if you want the teacher or learner to receive an email when the enrollment period expires.
  5. Click on the "Save changes" button at the bottom of the page

Important Notes

  • The enrollment duration is available in most - but not all - enrollment methods
  • The date is calculated from the time the user enrolls in the course.
  • For the "Face-to-face session enrollment" method, it's possible to calculate the date based on the face-to-face session the user will be attending
