Completing a Course when you're an Administrator

Learning environment administrators are often required to complete courses. For example, if you are a System Administrator working for a hospital, you are still most likely required to take courses such as WHMIS. However, because of your special administrator privileges, there are certain activities that will automatically go into "preview" mode and therefore, will not grant you a checkmark.

Step-by-step guide

To complete courses and receive a learning record:

  1. Go to the course in question.

  2. Ensure you are enrolled in the course. (Administrators bypass the course enrollment page, but to receive a learning record, you must first be enrolled in the course.)

  3. Go to the User Menu and select "Switch role to...". (See screenshot below)

  4. Select the Student role

  5. Complete all the required activities in the course.

Once you are finished, you can go back tot he User Menu and select "Return to my normal role".

TIP: Alternatively, many organizations create separate roles for system administrators that are different then their regular learner role. For example, if Jane Doe is an administrator, she might have an account that she uses to log in to complete courses, and a separate account that she uses strictly for administrative purposes.
