All/Most Users Have the Role of "Keyholder" (or another incorrect role) in a Course

Problem

While viewing the list of participants in a course, the "Roles" column shows that most users have the role of "Keyholder" (or another incorrect role) when they should have the role of "Student". This impacts their ability to complete the course properly.

Reason

In all likelihood, the reason is because the program that enrolled users in the course has the value of "Keyholder" (or another incorrect role) for the "Set user role" setting.

Solution

Starting in HCE 3.9.19, when changing the value of "Set user role" in a program, all users who had the old role will now be updated to have the new role in the course(s) referenced in the program.

  1. Go to Site Administration > Courses > Programs
  2. Look at the value for "Role assigned" column of the table to find the incorrect role
  3. Click on the edit icon next to the program in question
  4. Change the value of "Set user role"
  5. Save your changes
