Competency

The “Competency” block loads all the competencies in a given competency framework and then asks the employee to rate themselves using the predefined scale. Optionally, you can also ask the employee to provide feedback in a text area.

You can also use this block to give the manager the opportunity to rate and/or provide feedback on the employees performance.

If you plan on dividing your competencies in the form into multiple sections (e.g. with headers), you'll need to add one (1) competency framework per section.

How do I configure this block?

This block consists of the following elements. All fields are optional.

ID. The ID element is part of every block. It is strictly meant to be used a reference.

Label. The label is for this block is not currently displayed on the appraisal form. Instead, the form will display the name of the competency.

Framework. When selecting a framework, all competencies in the framework will appear in order. The user will then be asked to rate themselves on each competency individually.

All competencies must be rated. When this option is selected, the user must rate themselves on all competencies in the framework (using the predefined scale). When this box is not selected, an “N/A” option is made available, thereby allowing a user to not rate themselves if they do not feel that the competency is applicable.

Manager can rate competencies. When this option is selected, a separate scale allows the user’s manager to rate the employee. Not that if “All competencies must be rated” is enabled, the manager must also rate the employee on every single competency, whereas if “All competencies must be rated” is disabled, an “N/A” option is made available to the manager.

Collect employee feedback. This checkbox allows you to specify whether or not you need to collect feedback from the employee being assessed. The setting next to the “Placeholder” field allows you to specify whether or not you want to insert text by default in the text area where the employee will enter their feedback. If you leave the “Placeholder” text input field empty, then no text will appear in the text area by default.

Collect manager feedback. This checkbox work the same way as the “Collect employee feedback” checkbox, but it meant to collect feedback from the employee’s manager.

What does it look like on the final form?

Below is how the block would look like to an employee and/or manager based on the settings used in the section above. In this example, the two competencies attached to the “Interpersonal Skills” framework are “Responds to management direction” and “Displays positive outlook and pleasant manner”.
